Cove Loop Road Open this Saturday!
Great Smoky Mountains National Park announced details for the reopening of the Cades Cove Loop Road during two celebratory events on Saturday, April 24, and Sunday, April 25. The park has implemented temporary measures and organized personnel to direct traffic and parking to make these events run as smoothly as possible. On Saturday, the Loop Road will reopen only to bicyclists and pedestrians from sunrise (expected at 6:50 a.m.) to noon. Motor vehicles then will be permitted to travel the road starting at noon to sunset. They will not be allowed to arrive any earlier than noon.
During the morning hours, Park personnel will be stationed at the Townsend Wye to control traffic to the Cove. They will only allow those who will be recreating in and near the Cove, i.e., walkers, and campers/picnicer'sand Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont participants, and will be turning away motorists who plan to tour the Loop Road to help alleviate traffic jams. Motorists will be directed to return at noon.

We have a NEW Group Fire Ring in the field.

The fire pit was lit it off for the 1st time for the Second Harvest Benefit Campout. We had a great time roasting marshmellows, singing and telling tall stories.
Camping is all about sitting around the fire and on Friday nights if the wind is right, we are going to light up the fire and hope you will join us and roast a marshmallow or two.
There is nothing in the world that will help you relax any better than when the fire lights up the night sky, when cool breezes dance across your face, or when you look up into the stars and see the stars twinkle just for you.
So come please share our fire.
Vintage Camper Spring Rally in the Smokies 2010

We have over 40 Vintage Camper of all makes and models coming to the Spring Rally this year. Do you know that RV's have been on the roads exploring this great country for 100 years! From covered wagons to the great land yachts of today, RV's help make great family memories. We still have a few sites available for the vintage rally and the only requirement to attend is you have to love vintage campers! You do know that one day even your new RV will become a vintage camper. So come join in the fun!
Troutfest is a Fly Fishing Exposition and Fundraiser held in Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. Proceeds from this event are donated to Great Smoky Mountains National Park Fisheries Department, Friends of the Smokies Fisheries Scholarship Endowment or other youth educational conservation projects. The Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited sponsors this event as our major fundraiser and annual festival. This year the event will be one of the largest venues for fly anglers in the Southeast United States.
Some of the best fly tyers from our area will be demonstrating throughout the two day event. Last year we had 8 to 10 tyers performing at one time. It's free and the tyers are specialized in many different types of fly tying such as trout, bass, panfish and saltwater.
Live Bluegrass and Southern Appalachian music will continue on the stage both days. Food vendors will serve up a real southern meal or snack for you. Once you get here you won't want to leave.

THANK YOU!
We want to thank everyone who made the Second Harvest Food Bank of East TN benefit campout so much fun this year and hope we will see you again at next years event. Just think you get to sit by the campfire and help feed someone who was in need of help at the same time you were having fun. Now what could be better that that?
Second Harvest can provide 3 nutritious meals with every $1 donation. Go to the Second Harvest web site.
Did You Know?
The wispy, smoke-like fog that hangs over the Smoky Mountains comes from rain and evaporation from trees. On the high peaks of the Smokies, an average of 85 inches of rain falls each year, qualifying these upper elevation areas as temperate rain forests.
See you under the Stars,
Diane & Jimmy Felton
